Home Sick.

Ok so I have not had homesickness at all.  until tonight.  My sister sent me this picture of my dog, Murphy, and all I wanted to do was cry and go home and give him a hug and squeeze him until he squirmed out of my arms.  I really cannot wait until I get to go home and see my family and my Murph.

Aww He looks so cute :)

First Day of Class

Today was the first day of classes! I'm officially a college student.  Its weird, I don't know what to think about that.  Classes went well, I'm pretty sure I'm going to hate Hebrew Bible, but I decided to keep the class because it complements my Western Civilization Class.

I bought all my textbooks today as well. Cheapesttextbooks.com and amazon.com are my new best friends. I saved over $200. yes! I wish I could go shopping with that money. God, I'm turning into Allie.

The BEST news of the day.....
I didn't crash my bike at ALL today, AND I didn't run anyone over! WHOOOOHOOOO!

Oh and I got my mail key, and my address. :)

XOXO,
Kate

Class

Tomorrow marks the first day of classes! I was looking at the campus map and I realized that my classes are spread way across the campus.  I start with Hebrew Bible in the morning  from 9:30AM-10:45AM (I know, I know, I tried to get out of it but French 1 was full) then I have 15 min to get to the other side of campus for my Western Civilization class from 11:00 AM-12:15 PM, finally I have Pacific Seminar 1 "What is good Society" from 12:30 PM-1:45 PM.  PacSem is a two part class that all Pacific Freshmen have to take, and the school produces the textbook for it so I HAD to buy the $130 textbook from the bookstore. Later today I am going out with my fried Micaela to find our classes and the best places to put our bikes.

Today is Freshman Convocation, which is basically the entire school welcoming the freshman to the campus. My mom is making me go, even though she is 300 miles away.  We also have the welcome BBQ today, which is basically free food.  Now that I have to "pay" for food myself, I'm all for free food haha

Kate

MOVE

So today I had the MOVE program.  It stands for Mountains, Oceans, Valley Experience.  Every freshman at University of the Pacific has to go through this program.  It gets the students get out in the community and do a service activity.  I went to the Valley Stewardship experience, and we went to a farm in Sacramento, California and we had to pull weeds away from areas where they were growing plants.  We worked in the hot sun for two hours doing manual labor, plus I had to wake up at 6 in the morning.  But all in all, I had a great time and I met some AMAZING people.  Pictures to come!

Orientation.

Good morning all you bloggers, I am about to start my second (and final) day of Freshman orientation. Yesterday was a jam full day of learning about University of the Pacific and getting situated here.  We played games, met our student and faculty advisors, took placement tests and even had Cirque du Pacific! (which basically was a dance party). Today we have a chance to view our schedules and change them. We also have an information fair to meet representatives from different campus organizations.

I have not posted since I got here, but I'm all moved into my dorm room.  Allie, my sister, says it looks right out of the pottery bard catalogue, but it is exactly what I pictured my room to look like.  Check out the pictures below :)

XOXO,
Kate

Change

I am 18 years old and I feel as if I have never done anything big in my life.  Yes, I have done big things like graduating High School and going to California State Summer School for the Arts (twice), and traveling. But I feel like I have not done anything in my life that is really  and truly big. I am ready for a life changer, and I am hoping these next four years of College will bring that to me.

As of August 16, 2010, I will say goodbye to the life I know and my family and friends and move five hours away to University of the Pacific.  That is in 6 days. Sheesh! I don't think I have anything ready, I have no idea what to pack or how to pack it. I'm kinda scared, but I know this journey will be a good one for me and I need to take it.

More to come,
XOXO,
Kate
